McGregor-Travers overnight

A fishing report.
With work ramping up in the North it looks like a return to McMurray is on the Horizon so I decided to begin the Ling hunt early this year and got out for my first over night trip.

Target species-Ling, Perch, Whitefish

Tues Morn-
Travers Little Bow Park  - 18-20 " ice, No wind
Very little snow cover. I did not drive on but there are tracks leading east from the boat launch. Drilled holes right of the boat launch(9FOW). Marked 1 fish 30 minutes.

Travers Inlet spillway -14-20 inches ice, light wind
Snow cover is 2-4 inches crusty snow. I drove on and followed tracks from a larger vehicle.  Checked three spots 2 hours (7-14 FOW). Landed 5 small walleye and one hammer handle pike.  The morning was calm and quiet so I took the opportunity to practice some photography.
                                         Travers Inlet ice

Travers Dam Boat launch - 8-18 " ice, High wind
Lack of snow cover and melt/freeze has made the area slick (Cleats are a must) There are signs of ATV's being on the ice. A local advised me against driving on down there so I don't. Drilled 20 holes and came across thin spots (8-10") west of the campsite in 20 FOW. Fishing was slow only one 5-6 #pike and 1 avg white in 2 hours.

 McGregor Lamond crossing
Lots of open water around the bridge and there are signs of someone walking on the west side. I did not stop and fish.

McGregor Pageant - 18-22" ice mild wind
Wind blown ice with crusty patches of snow. walked on, Drilled 12 holes (4-10FOW)marked no fish 1 hour.

McGregor Milo -  20-22" ice mild wind
Lots of vehicles on the ice, snow is crusty 2-4inches. drilled approx 80 holes over 20 hours (4-28 FOW). on both sides.  Many small pike and walleye during the daytime. Night time there wasn't much sleep, everytime I dozed of "Dingle Dingle Dingle" a constant bite of 2-4# walleye, only 1 ling (lost at the hole $%#@# barbless hooks lol). Morning found a small group of whites in 7 FOW and they showed 0 interest in jigs and wire worms, by 9am they disappeared and after being awake for almost 30 hours it was time to head home for a rest. Still haven't solved the McGregor perch riddle. Search for "The Truth" continues.

As always something to cook.......the last of my German venison sausage fried up with onions and mushrooms. Eating like a king. While preparing food the coyotes were going off doing their sunset song, it's times like these that make all the effort to get here worth while
Pan fried venison Sausage w/ mushrooms and onions

Weather is forecast to drop a bit and looking out my window in High River I'd say we have snow on the way. I don't think the Ling have begun housekeeping the spawn beds yet but there is enough pike/walleye action to keep things interesting. A few days off to recover and reset then back out again.
